TIERRA MAYA cacao is sourced from Maya Moon Cacao; a 100% Mayan owned collective of indigenous mothers and special needs youths who artisanally produce our cacao products.

The cacao beans are roasted, hand-peeled and ground by this wonderful team before then being moulded into our smooth blocks of rich cacao paste.

TIERRA MAYA cacao is of single origin. Our native ‘criollo’ cacao beans are
sourced directly from our farmers in a remote village called Lachua, situated
in Cobán, Alta Verapaz; a highland region in Central Guatemala.

Here our cacao is organically grown, harvested, fermented and dried before being transported to the small Kaqchikel village of San Marcos La Laguna on the shores of Lake Atitlan. 

Signifying life and fertility, it’s thought that cacao was first used as a health elixir and ceremonial medicine as far back as 1900 BC by the ancestors of Central America; the Olmec people, before becoming a ritualistic medicine used by the Aztec and Mayan cultures.

Theobroma Cacao is rich in magnesium, potassium, iron, and theobromine. This superfood provides the body with nutrients, antioxidants and also the neurotransmitters serotonin, tryptophan and dopamine, which help to feel good, combat stress and harness renewed motivation.

The phenylethylamine content also helps the body to create feelings of excitement and euphoria, while opening up creativity and flow.
